August Childs.

My journey to becoming a death doula has been marked by personal experiences with overcoming addiction, several encounters with death, and a natural curiosity towards death and impermanence since adolescence. These defining pivotal moments have shaped my understanding of life's fragility and beauty reinforcing the importance of returning gently to each moment of life.

The introduction of spirituality seemed to be the only plausible life raft left that could bring me back to shore. What was once a reluctant necessity is now a vital cornerstone of my life that I would not go a day without, just like that of going without water or food. As such, this Path has naturally led to the exploration of many different spiritual practices— It was the "Year To Live" meditation practice, living the year of 2022 as if if it were my last, that guided me to a deeper appreciation of each moment and the art of letting go by reflecting daily on my own death.

Although not the initial path, I am now on profound spiral into becoming the quality(s) of that which saved me: Unconditional Love, Compassion, Service, and a desire to reduce suffering for all.

Now, as a trained death doula, I offer a compassionate presence to others as they navigate the final currents of their journey, blending my own experiences of survival and transformation with a dedication to guiding others toward a peaceful passage. I also bring death and dying conversations to the public and work 1-on-1 to help individuals live more fully through reflecting on their own death, dying, and impermanence.

Walking the path of a Death Doula has arisen as a natural consequence of my life’s experiences.
